HISTORY

Peter Cronwright, a descendant of an 1820 settler

family re-located from The Point in Kalk Bay to

Fish Hoek after WW1 with a small herd of cows

and a few horses. Their Kalk Bay home “Patmos”

was once the Rev Andrew Murray’s holiday home.

Cron” operated a dairy in the area of what is now

Upper Recreation and Ivanhoe Roads (now

Valyland Shopping Centre).

The dairy was also run for many years by Peter’s

son Louis after whom Cronwright Lane was named.

He was very prominent in local affairs, serving as a

Fish Hoek Town Councillor and Mayor. His son,

Morthland, also a Councillor and Mayor, took over

the business until it closed in the 1960s.
