all morning |
Dockyard, Simon’s Town |
initially 1 then 3 Glen reports: “three Southern
Rights spent this morning up close to the Navy frigate SAS Mendi. They would
move off into the middle of the harbour then all come back together alongside
the ship. This would follow much splashing with tails and flukes waving
about. One of the whales decided to make the harbour entrance his base for
nearly and hour. If a boat passed the harbour entrance the whale would turn
towards the sound and then return to face back into the harbour. The
fishing trawler Basani entered port at 0900 for dry docking and even this
interRuption did not disturb their antics. All three left in the late
afternoon. You may ask how do I have time to
watch all these whales and their antics. Well my office is right on the quay
overlooking the harbour and the harbour entrance. The whales can be rather
distracting as they come and go but always a pleasure to watch -what a job!!” |
