on the southern side of Kommetjie Road approximately

100m from the traffic circle and Main Road. Outspan Road is

on its southern border - see “who was who” below.

Once a part of Fish Hoek Farm it was the place where oxen

and horses pulling wagons and carts were rested from as

early as the mid 1700s as there was an abundance of fresh

water emanating from a perennial spring which still runs to

this day.

The Outspan is now a parking area and is a part of what is

the oldest trading area in Fish Hoek. The first shop in Fish

Hoek (The District Bazaar) is opposite on the corner of

Ist Avenue and Kommetjie Road. It was built by J. de Villiers

c1920. Further down the road is The Outspan Hotel,

previously known as The Milton Hotel in the 1920s.

Significantly, the legendary pair Messrs A.P. Jones and

Historical Hunt @ Night -

Albert Wakeford both started out in small shops opposite

Fish Hoek’s Nooks and Spooks

The Outspan.
